Fabulous discovery

So I promised to tell you about my discovery!  See it here! My beloved teacher has released an audio class of the Ashtanga Primary Series.  How absolutely amazing!!  I can’t wait to practice with him on Sunday! 😉  As much as I would love to be in Miami taking his class, the sound of his voice practically takes me there.  Now where can I order sunshine, humidity, and palm trees?

When I was pregnant with my daughter, he sent me a DVD he’d made while teaching a modified version of the Primary Series to an eight-month-pregnant woman.  That was wonderful, and I practiced with it during both pregnancies.  But I have to admit that by the time I was seven months along, it was really tough for me to get through it (and I was cussing him out most of the time).  The woman in the video was like 5’9″ — and let me just tell you that pregnancy is a very different experience for tall women than for short.  Seriously.  I am 4’10” and gained over 40 pounds with each pregnancy.  My daughter was 8 lbs 4 oz and my son was 9 lbs 3 oz.  That means any movement whatsoever required an immediate trip to the bathroom.   Not to mention the screwdriver-jammed-between-the-back-ribs pain and the suffocating lung compression.  If you disagree with my assessment, bring it on!

Today was awesome as I spent 2.5 hours teaching yoga.  The entire afternoon, I was elated from the morning class.  For the evening, both kids came with (Lifetime has a childcare center) and I had a small group of regulars—so we set an excellent pace!   I was feeling the vibe!  My upper back was ooooopen, my lower back feeling solid, I was calm and energized.  AND THEN…my post-yoga evening:  stomach cramps and diarrhea!   No, not me…my poor three-year-old girl.  I’m talking full on irritable bowel in her Dora panties, followed by four trips to the potty with her (and the baby!) as she screamed in horror, and then another “<shriek> too late Mami!” load in the diaper which I’d put on her ‘just in case.’   Mind you, this is a child who began refusing to ‘go kaka’ in her diaper at about 18 months.  Traumatized.  What a night!  What a reality check!!  If that’s not the perfect AshtangaMami story, I don’t know what is. 😉
